Do the defense team need the objective truth in criminal case?

Purpose: The article considers the possible implications of the probable introduction of objective truth into the Russian criminal procedure from the point of view of advocates. Methodology: The legalistic method, the comparative legal method and the method of legal modelling are used. Results: The article presents the opinions of supporters and antagonists of the notion of objective truth in criminal procedure. The author presents a comprehensive study of the significance of the objective truth for advocates. A conclusion is made on the necessity of the objective truth for the defense team as it may foster equaling the opportunities of the defense and the prosecution. Novelty/originality/value: The article has a high research potential because it presents one of the first attempts to study the possible influence of the objective truth on advocacy if introduced into the Russian criminal procedure.
