About the herpetological collection of the Mahambet Utemisov West Kazakhstan University

This article discusses the issue of creating and replenishing the herpetological collection stored at the Mahambet Utemisov West Kazakhstan university (Uralsk, Republic of Kazakhstan). As of April 26, 2024, it contained 15 specimens of eight reptile species: Eryx miliaris (Pallas, 1773); Coronella austriaca Laurenti, 1768; Elaphe dione (Pallas, 1773), Natrix tessellata (Laurenti, 1768); Hierophis caspius (Gmelin, 1789); Psammophis lineolatus (Brandt, 1838); Gloydius caraganus (Eichwald, 1831); Vipera renardi (Christoph, 1861). On April 27, 2024, during herpetological research in the area. From Podstepnoye, West Kazakhstan region (51°05’52.1”N 51°31’20.6”E), a male Lacerta agilis Linnaeus, 1758 was found, who died from the bite of the Vipera renardi. This specimen became the first representative of Lizards - Sauria Mccarthney, 1822 in the collection and is stored there under the accession number “GKZKU-16”.
