The review on T.L.Lazareva's scientific study «The History of Mediaeval Scottland in Songs. Sir Walter Scott "Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border"» (St.Petersburg, 2008) develops the problem of the literature and culture of the past actualization in contemporary scientific researches. The polemics of the monograph with Russian and foreign scientists on the problems of authorship of literary works of border genres is revealed. The review involves extra-context of the Middle Ages, Romanticism, Postmodernism as the turning epochs, states the problems of marginality, creation, history reconstruction and border genres structure.
