At a series of Upper Palaeolithic sites on the Middle Dnieper several horizons of cultural deposits have been traced: Kirillovskoe, Suponevo, Mezin, Yeliseevichi, Yudinovo, Gontsy. The deposit horizons form local spots and are usually registered in the site areas located on lower level. In some cases two or more horizons have been interpreted as separate cultural layers. Detailed analysis suggests that the discussed sites consist of single layer. In the past some areas were covered by seasonal sediments and then used repeatedly for habitation, cultural deposit forming a separate spot. In cross-section it was recorded as a cultural horizon, and could have been mistakenly interpreted as a separate cultural layer.
