On some features of the traceological study of traces formed by chains of gasoline and electric saws when sawing wood

For the investigation of crimes related to illegal logging, an expert examination of trace evidence recovered from the scene - complete and incomplete cuts arising on the planes of a split tree trunk as a result of the impact of the saw chain of petrol and electric saws - can be of substantial assistance. Determination by an expert of the type of saw chain by the traces left by it will allow narrowing the group of chains, as well as excluding the identity of objects (at the stage of a comparative study). This article presents examples of conclusions drawn from the results of traces formed by chains of petrol and electric saws when sawing timber.
