This article presents the materials collected during the study of the topic devoted to the legal foundations of the drug addiction fight in modern Russia. It has been found that the Russian anti-drug legislation is a system of normative legal acts that formally can be considered sufficient to combat drug addiction. But the fight against drug addiction is carried out with varying success, the drug business creates new threats to society, while certain legal norms remain inconsistent and do not contribute to improving the drug situation in the country. The article summarizes the views of researchers on this problem. Their attention is focused on such problems as the « awkwardness » of the law in fixing substances that constitute a drug threat to society; the imposition of too lenient punishment for acts related to drugs, including new psychoactive substances; the lack of a clear interpretation of a number of terms in the legislation, which is seen as an obstacle to the organization of preventive measures and the fight against drug addiction.
