The represented article is about one of the most important features of creating an image of a provincial town in the novel F. M. Dostoevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov". This feature is in a peculiar manner of landscape descriptions. Creating a background for his novel, Dostoevsky includes in it the elements of the landscape of the real town. One of the originals of the town named Skotoprigon'evsk is Staraya Russa, where the writer spent his summer seasons and also worked on the creation of "The Brothers Karamazov».
