The monetary reform of 1961 implemented by the Irkutsk regional office of the State bank of the USSR

There have been several monetary reforms in Russia at various stages of this state development. Based on the analysis of scientific literature, the records of the State Archives of Irkutsk region, the problematic and chronological principle, the author considers the essence and characteristics of the monetary reform of 1961 carried out by the Irkutsk Regional Office of the State Bank of the USSR. The arrangements for money exchange in this organization are described. The research presents the estimates of money issued in 1961 and needed to be delivered to Irkutsk region. The study demonstrates the creation of the network of exchange offices and logistics solutions related to the delivery of money to remote areas considering their transport infrastructure. The staffing issue is discussed as well. The study identifies the amounts of old money and their inflow through exchange offices. Besides, the research presents reliable information on the perception of money exchange procedure by local residents and their behavior stereotypes in exchange offices.
