On the activity of the Lyailyk expedition of IA RAS

The paper presents a review of the works of the Lyailyak expedition organizedin the Institute of Archaeology, RAS. The expedition was active from 1959 till 1987 inCentral Asia. During this period it was headed by G. A. Brykina. The field works coverednumerous sites of various types investigated in the hilly regions of South-West Fergana:open and fortified settlements and cemeteries dating from the early and high MiddleAges. The works have yielded abundant materials which characterize one of numerousregions of Central Asia and form the base for a series of scientific books. The authorsconsider G. A. Brykina’s contribution in various aspects of the activity of the expeditionand Russian archaeology in general. The publication contains personal memoires of thescholar provided by her colleagues and apprentices.
