In the article, the main stages of the preparations for the 2020 census of population of the Russian Federation is considered. its difference from the population census of 2010 not only by the methods of gathering information (the use of electronic questionnaires with the help of tablet computers and the Internet), but by the innovations, which contains the Program of the 2020 population census of the Russian Federation.
