Dealing with "winter" images in Akhmatova's poetry, the autors of the present article base their arguments on the fact that in works of poets of the beginning of the XX century winter mythologem has the specific urgency due to its role of a symbol of time and epoch. The problems posed here refer to the role of winter metaphors in Anna Akhmatova's poetry. The semantics of winter motives and images is being ascertained, their evolution within the poet's works is being revealed. We prove that these images, mythological on their basis, create a complex picture of the period of change, show the illusiveness of the human-being existence on the blink of life and death. This function of "winter" images is shown on the example of lyrics and the lyric poem "The Way of All the Earth".
