About the foundation of Chan tradition in China

The article is devoted to the foundation of Chan-buddhist tradition in China. Biographies of first five patriarchs are considered, their significance in creation of the Chan school is analyzed. The process of branching Chan on Northern and Southern schools is covered in the article.
