The biological productivity of the terrestrial ecosystem and water spaces is considered in the article. The close connection and dependence between the indicators of biological productivity, the factors affecting it and the capabilities of mankind to solve food supply problems, is substantiated. The emphasis is on the need to reorient the new direction in addressing the issues of food security in our country.
