The scope of possible use of a security deposit is defined in the work and its security potential in an obligation arising from a preliminary contract is shown. Based on the analysis of judicial-arbitration practice, scientific literature, a conclusion is made about the possibility of using an security deposit as a way of securing obligations under a preliminary contract. The security payment is considered as a way of ensuring the existing obligation, but with a delayed period of performance, including the obligation arising from the preliminary contract to conclude the main contract.
