The paper discusses the changes in the age structure of the northern region of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which have led to an increase in the proportion of population aged 60 years and older. Demographic aging is a global problem of modern society, regardless of the level of development. The aging of the population is a complex phenomenon that has important consequences for all spheres of State activity. In modern historical science it is di cult to overestimate the role of the analysis of demographic processes taking place in society, since demographic data determine state policy and economic calculations in the implementation of reforms. The use of materials from national censuses and current statistical data in the study made it possible to more accurately estimate the proportion of people 60 years and older, determining the level of old age population in the region. It should be noted that the republic as a whole is only on the threshold of population aging, having a low proportion of people 60 years and older. However, there are regions where there is a risk of demographic aging. Besides, in a traditional society, the respectful attitude of all segments of society to the elderly people is historically conditioned, they show, by their example and valuable experience, that they are worthy to continue their professional activities even after o cial retirement with good health.
