About one experience of visual history researching (review for the monography of E. V. Volkov "The square of revolutionary martyrs: the revolt of the Czechoslovak legion through the eyes of a Soviet painter")

E. V. Volkov’s monograph is devoted to the interpretation of visual images created by the Soviet painter Nikolay Mikhailovich Kochergin (1897-1974) and historical basis of his painting “Counter-RevolutionaryActions of the Czechoslovak Troops” (1935). There is in the book the author’s approach to the analysis of the visual source as a cultural fact of the Soviet discourse of the first half of the 1930s about events Civil War in the Southern Urals. A conclusion is made about the contribution of the peer-reviewed monography to the practice of historical and visual studies.
