The article discusses spatial and stylistic features of the images formed by pits on the surfaces of Neolithic and Chalcolithic vessels from the forest zone of Eastern Europe. The most part of such images were found on the sites with Rhomb-Pit Ware in the Eastern Part of the Baltic Sea Basin. The article argues that significant part of the images formed by pits could be interpreted as the schematic or reduced figures of the waterfowl. Basing on the data published in the article, the author considers that the spreading of the waterfowl images formed by comb imprints on the Rhomb-Pit Ware vessels was conditioned by the influence from the zone of the typical Comb Ware. The article traces parallels between the figures of the waterfowl on the Rhomb-Pit Ware vessels and analogous figures of the petroglyphs of Lake Onega. These stylistic similarities could be used in dating of the rock carvings.
