Unification of the Korean peninsula from the perspective of south and north Korean students

The study presents a comparative analysis of the main stages of the inter-Korean dialog in the late 2018 - early 2019 and youth opinion on the unification of the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). The two countries' students studying at Vladivostok State University of Economics and Service have been interviewed and questioned. The authors identify the attitude of young people towards the Korean conflict and its resolution, the participation of the Korean national team in the 2020 Summer Olympics, the Korean reunification and their doubts about the elimination of alienation. South Korean students express concerns about the hasty disengagement from the conflict relationship and a priority need to solve the problems in their country. The restrained responses of North Korean students to political questions reflect their full agreement with unification as a Korean national idea. The overall trend in the inter-Korean dialog and the views of young people on this issue demonstrate that South-Korean relations have reached a new milestone. In general, young people take a positive attitude to the unification of South and North Korea having different political systems, levels of social and economic development, and military capabilities.
