The purpose of this article is to determine the essence of objects of cassation appeal, their difference from objects of appeal and supervisory proceedings as a result of the study of criminal procedure law and scientific doctrine. During the analysis of the objects of cassation appeal and their comparison with the objects of appeal and supervisory proceedings, the author concludes that the content of such objects consists of substantive and procedural elements, at the same time, the objects of cassation differ from the objects of appeal by the substantive and procedural element, and from the objects of supervisory proceedings only by the procedural element. Since the reform of the criminal procedure law in 2018, the content and objects of cassation appeal have undergone significant changes. If earlier the cassation instance considered appeals against judicial acts that did not come into force, and those that came into force were reviewed only in the order of supervision, now the cassation instance considers appeals against decisions, rulings and sentences that came into force. Such drastic changes in criminal procedure law require analysis by means of a theoretical study of the main aspects of cassation appeal, including its objects.
