Updating the content of physics teachers’ professional development in the system of additional professional education

The article discusses the problem of physics teachers’ professional development in modern conditions of society and education development. The modern education system is designed to solve the problems of forming human, able to live in rather difficult conditions associated with energy resources decrease, environmental deterioration and etc. All this requires to shift the focus from traditional existing system of knowledge transfer to the development of the ability to use this knowledge to meet society needs. Obviously, all this requires updating the content of physics teachers’ professional development in the system of additional professional education. The author offers proven approaches to address this issue, in particular, the addition of special course “Developing Students’ Creative Abilities in Learning Physics” to the program of physics teachers’ professional development, as well as involvement of professional development courses trainees in role-playing. Also, special attention is paid to the negative aspects, which may be encountered in the course of solving this problem.
