Enrichment of bentonite clay with one-charge cation

The article presents the results of a study of the ion-exchange ability of natural bentonite clay in relation to sodium, potassium and ammonium ions. Data on the content of exchangeable cations of calcium and magnesium in model systems and colloidal clay powders are presented. Sodium and potassium carbonates, chloride, sulfate, oxalate and ammonium benzoate in various proportions to the mass of bentonite were used as modifying additives. The effect of anion on ion exchange is estimated.
