The basis for the duality of human nature and the substantiality of the soul in the philosophical writings of Leo Lopatin

This article discusses the philosophical formulations of Leo M. Lopatin, a Russian philosopher, president of the Moscow Psychological Society and editor of the journal Voprosy Filosofii i Psikhologii (Qestions in Philosophy and Psychology) in pre- revolutionary Russia. The author has analyzed the philosophical writings of Lopatin and summarized his main views on the nature of man. Based on a critical analysis of the monist view of the nature of man, the concept of substance dualism is defended. The author presents Lopatin’s proof of the substantial nature of the human soul.
