Justification of the choice of vanadium as a marker of motor vehicle emissions for environmental monitoring

The condition of the effectiveness of environmental monitoring in the city is the need to select from a large number of indicators of those under observation that can be made the correct conclusions about the situation in the urban ecosystem and managerial decisions on specific sources of pollution. For modern cities with well-developed road infra-structure is characterized by the presence of a number of heavy metals. They can be used as marker substances for the diagnosis of the likely changes to a set of indicators and predict acceptable levels of exposure to the urban environment. The authors propose a method for determination of vanadium as a contaminant marker that allows to give a comprehensive assessment of the state of metropolis ecosystem in real time and take timely measures to reduce the negative impact of mobile sources.
