The image of Italy in V.A. Kaverin's "The slanting rain"

The article is devoted to V.A. Kaverin's story "The Slanting Rain" (1962). The authors of the article study the specificity of Kaverin's perception of Italy. It is revealed that one of the means of literary exploration of the Italian theme in the story is topoecphrasis, revealing the characters' nature, forming the image of location and expressing the writer's attitude to о genius loci. The article also investigates the relation between Kaverin's story and P. Muratov's "Images of Italy" (1911, 1912, 1924). It is underlined that Kaverin depicted his Italy referring to Muratov's book as a source of Italian images and motifs, and this reference intended to restore the "links of times", characteristic of Khrushchev's "thaw".
