The study discussed the events related to the progress of the Circumnavigation of Francis Drake near the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of America. The author paid special attention to the particular perception and description of the New World by voyagers. The English were impressed by the wealth of the new continent, the peculiarities of its nature, the customs and the way of life of the native people in different parts of America. Based on both personal experience and the messages of their predecessors, the expedition members created a unique image of the New World in their travel notes. The American continent was regarded by English travelers as a dangerous but alluring place. Their vivid description of the New World attracted new adventurers to challenge the Spanish and Portuguese monopoly on the American continent.
