After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russian society is in the search for its identity, a new "Russian idea". One of the most significant elements of any national culture is the idea of the state power organization and the personality of a political leader. The present work is devoted to the study of the concepts of a political leader in Russia. During the research, the author cites a historical analysis of the evolution of ideas about the Russian ruler, beginning with the pre-Christian period and ending with the image of modern politics. The author uses comparative-historical, specifically sociological, formal-logical and other scientific methods. The study of the problem is carried out on the basis of an interdisciplinary approach. In conclusion, the author gives his assessment of the existing modernity and determines, based on this, what a national leader should be like, ensuring the prosperity of Russia.
