Image-symbol as a means of cohesion actualizaton and its role in the main character's image development (based on the novel «Of human bondage» by W. S. Maugham)

The paper is devoted to the research on the textual category of cohesion. It describes the dynamics of actualization of abstract-intensional cohesion through the usage of extra-linguistic means, namely through the usage of the image-symbol «Persian carpet» in the text of the novel. It also reveals some text-generative potentialities of the textual category of cohesion determining the formation and development of the main character's image in the novel under consideration.
