The image of a socialist city in the cultural landscape of the Russian province (exemplified by Kirov city)

The article is concerned with the means forming the image of a socialist city based on the analysis of the sign-oriented landscape of the city of Kirov. The topicality of the problem is associated with the possibility of updating of the Soviet memorial environment in the modern urban space. The urban landscape, created during the Soviet era, has educational potential, the resources for development of local and national identity and patriotism. The research relevance is determined by the comprehensive analysis of the sign-oriented landscape of Kirov with application of K. Lynch’s theory of “readability” of the urban space.
