The article deals with the results of empirical research of ideas of a «typical Russian» among the Chinese and Russian students. A «typical Russian» as viewed by the Chinese students is a white-haired, tall, beautiful person, active, courageous, resolute, optimistic, clever, sociable, friendly, cultured, strong, conscientious and hardworking. As for the Russian students, their idea of a «typical Russian» is less positive and more stereotypic. Their typical compatriot is seen as a cheerful, drinking, kind, sociable, clever, strong, impudent and rough person.
