The article analyses the educational policy of the Russian Empire in the territories conquered during the Caucasian War. The review of forms and methods of introducing spiritual and ethic assimilation of local tribes has been presented. The concern of the Russian government about the cultural uniqueness of mountain peoples has been demonstrated. It is realized by means of forming ethnically oriented models.
