This publication is an attempt to study one of the areas of the educational policy of the Russian Orthodox Church in the North Caucasus - educational activity, which was carried out in the 19th century by the Society for the Restoration of Orthodox Christianity in the North Caucasus. On the basis of archival sources it is proved that this religious institute was engaged in the enlightenment of the children of the highlanders, the establishment of theological schools, and writing; translations into the languages of the Caucasian peoples of Orthodox literature. The research methodology is based on a dialectical understanding of history, which is a method of studying the patterns, trends in the development of historical processes and includes scientific objectivity, historicism and systematicity. It is concluded that, thanks to the educational mission of the OVPHK, the foundation was laid for the further development of writing, science, cultural and spiritual consolidation of the Russian and Caucasian peoples in the North Caucasus region. The practical significance is due to the relevance of theoretical provisions and conclusions, which will largely help to remove the most controversial points in assessing the precedents of the Caucasian history of the 19th century, which are still ambiguously perceived by public opinion and show modern politicians the ways of the best interaction with the peoples of the multiconfessional region.
