The images of river and ice drift in the linguistic world view of the Central Yakutia residents

The authors reveal the key images in the life of the population of Yakutia that are the river and ice drift. The survey was carried out via Google forms having built-in response statistics. The research findings demonstrate that the images of the river and ice drift in the minds of the modern Yakut population are associated with the geographical and climate features of the region. The sacral component of the concept of river formerly associated with the lower world and death is not revealed. Modern respondents think that the river can be dangerous when it harms the regional economy in case of floods. The residents of Yakutia still refer to the river and major bodies of water as a whole by ‘Ebe’ (grandmother), which shows that they appreciate and respect them.
