The article explores the social and existential conditions and circumstances of intellectual solitude of N.N. Strakhov, a Russian literary critic and philosopher of encyclopedic knowledge of the XIX century. The author analyzes the communicative contexts of Strakhov's philosophical studies. The main emphasis is put on the letters of the thinker, the most important of which were addressed to F.M. Dostoevsky, L.N. Tolstoy, I.A. Aksakov, V.V. Rozanov, etc.
