Temperance societies in the second half of XIX - early XIX centuries: the process of origin, the basic activities and the specific features of the division (based on the Saratov province)

The article deals with the process of the appearance of the temperance society in the Russian Empire and the specific features of their division. There are analyzed the activities of the societies of the sober lifestyle of the different types at the territory of the Saratov province. There is revealed the role of the church in the development of the soberness based on the sources of the personal origin.
