Social and political activity of students of the Rostov region

The article analyzes the main forms of social and political activity of students of Rostov Region, such as electoral activity, involvement in practice of public organizations and participation in civic actions. The article examines students’ relation to the law and acceptability of illegal actions. Basing on the empirical data of sociological research, the authors emphasize the trend of increasing students’ social and political passiveness. For example, one third of respondents would stay indifferent in case of violation of their rights. In addition, most of students do not participate in the work of public and political organizations. However, the comparative analysis revealed that the number of students, who participated in public organizations, increased. The students have the significant potential of extracurricular activity, and according to the empirical data, half of respondents show an interest to politics from time to time. Absenteeism is typical for one third of students (every fifth respondent misses elections principally). At the same time, the university has the task of preparing not only specialist but also citizens with an active civil position.
