Public control over places of forced detention: problems and solutions

The article analyzes the activities of public monitoring commissions. The activities of this public institution are aimed at protecting the rights and legitimate interests of persons serving a sentence of imprisonment, as well as improving the system of execution of criminal penalties in places of forced detention, performing their duties, preventing and detecting violations of the law in their activities, as well as respecting the rights of detainees. The article examines the provisions of normative legal acts regulating the tasks of public control, the procedure for creating and some aspects of the functioning of public monitoring commissions in the Russian Federation.
