By the beginning of the Great Patriotic war, the Transfiguration Cathedral was the main temple of the renewed Leningrad diocese. During the blockade of the city members of his community honestly performed Patriotic duty. They called people for military and labor feats, raised funds for wounded soldiers, the Defense Fund, etc. Many of the clergy of the Cathedral died of starvation. In April 1943, the Renovationists of Leningrad were headed by the “bishop” Sergey Rumyantsev. The message about Stalin’s reception in September 1943 of three metropolitans - leaders of the Moscow Patriarchate, caused a sense of confusion among the Leningrad Renovationists. Gradually, in the community of the Transfiguration Cathedral began all the growing movement for the transition to the Patriarchate. The reunification of the repentant community took place on January 8-9, 1944. By the complete lifting of the blockade of the city, all its Orthodox communities were United in the bosom of the canonical Russian Orthodox Church.
