Based on the analysis of materials of law enforcement practice and sources of scientific literature, the present article examines the situation of violent crimes committed by convicts in places of deprivation of liberty. Violent crimes when committed on the territory of correctional institutions of the penitentiary system of Russia, unequivocally possessing typical features of similar crimes committed outside penitentiary formations, have a number of unique features determined by a group of factors and circumstances, the key of which is the environment in which they were committed. The social danger of violent crimes committed by convicts in places of deprivation of liberty is due to the fact that harm to the health and life of victims is caused in the conditions of serving sentences by persons who have previously committed crimes that are typically characterized as grave and especially grave, mainly in the presence of a conflict situation in a penitentiary institution. , possibly of a long-term nature and due to the criminal environment and the situation that has developed in the institution due to a variety of objective and subjective reasons. In the criminal law understanding, all violent crimes are characterized by a number of common features, the main of which are the method of their commission, which is provided as an element that characterizes the objective side of the crime, as well as the nature of the violence used or its threat. The forensic characterization of the crimes in question is part of the forensic methodology of their investigation, determines its content, the direction of the investigation, the construction of versions, the expediency and tactical features of the conduct of investigative actions, consists of a set of elements that are in a correlation and make up a certain system of characteristic features. The elements that are typically included in the content of a forensic characteristic may have different detailed content and practical significance in the detection and investigation of crimes of various types. The article carried out a comprehensive study of the content of the situation of committing the crimes under study as a set of interrelated and interdependent elements that have a direct impact on the criminal actions of the perpetrators, their reflection in the external environment and predetermining the methodology for their investigation.
