In this paper a review of automation degrees of diesel electric generators was made. The relevance of the development of the electric generator protection monitoring device (UMPDG) has been revealed. During the analysis of literature sources it was revealed that automated diesel power plants are equipped with devices and systems that ensure the performance of start-up operations, monitoring and control of operation in automatic mode. Degrees of automation of diesel electric generators can vary depending on specific models and technologies used, but basically four degrees are distinguished, which are applied depending on the tasks of the generating set. These systems can improve the efficiency and reliability of diesel gensets, as well as make them easier to operate and maintain. However, all gensets can be subjected to overloads. This device will help the technicians to make the operation of generators easier with the features that will be in this device. They will be able to see the load on each phase in the generator, which will help eliminate asymmetrical operation. If the generator is overloaded, this device will also be able to signal and the personnel will be able to correct the error immediately. The methods of literature review, electronic resources were used in the work. The materials of the research were the review of degrees of automation of diesel electric power plants in the Russian Federation.
