Assessment of the dynamics of socio-economic development of the Kursk region in the context of ensuring economic security

The article provides an economic and statistical assessment of the dynamics of socio-economic development of the Kursk region in the context of ensuring economic security. The relevance of this study is due to the influence of a large number of external and internal factors on the socio-economic situation of the regions and the Russian Federation as a whole. Thus, the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 led to a number of changes at macro and microeconomic levels: acceleration of inflation, slowdown in the growth of monetary incomes of the population, decrease in investment, business and economic activity of economic entities, changes in household behavior patterns, changes in the balance of supply and demand in the labor market, almost complete suspension of activities in a number of sectors of the economy. Also, another kind of external factor that has a certain impact on the Russian economy is external sanctions pressure from a number of foreign countries. Transformation processes in the economy associated with the introduction of new production and information technologies also have a certain impact on regional economies and labor markets. The purpose of this study is to assess the socio-economic development of the Kursk region for 2016-2020 using key indicators reflecting the scale and nature of the changes taking place under the influence of external and internal factors, countering the existing threats and challenges of the Russian economy. The authors of this study consider the dynamics of key socio-economic indicators of development, its industrial production, foreign economic activity, the value of the consumer price index for food and non-food goods and services, monetary income and consumer spending of the population, the average annual number of employed in the Kursk region for 2016-2020. The study revealed an increase in the size of the gross regional product by more than 41%, significantly increased financial investments of organizations and their net financial result. There is also an increase in import and export volumes in the Kursk region by 41.73 and 84.27 percent, respectively, and by the end of 2020, the volume of exports exceeds the volume of imports by 34.66%. Over the corresponding period of time, the volume of investments in fixed assets in the Kursk region increased by 46.16%, and the volume of fixed assets increased by 103.65%. From 2016 to 2020, the Kursk Region has seen a decrease in the average annual number of employees by 5.47%, which is a negative factor in the aspect of socio-economic development in the long term. According to the results of the study, the authors made the appropriate conclusions.
