Areas with special conservation interest of emerald network for the Eurasian crane (Grus grus L.) in European Russia

We estimated the sufficiency of the number of Areas of Special Conservation Interest (ASCI) for the Eurasian Crane in European Russia. We analysed the key sites of the Eurasian Crane area in breeding and migration periods using the data from field surveys, literature review and satellite photos. Number of cranes in the selected areas of conservation significance in Europe is determined; the recommendations on the expansion of the Emerald network in European Russia are given.
