Assessment and zoning of suburban areas for their sustainable development

The article discusses issues of assessment and zoning of suburban areas for the purpose of their sustainable development. The authors propose considering the problem by dividing it into three blocks of first-level goals: social, ecological and economic. The research was carried out using the materials from the Moscow region. An analysis of the dynamics of the Moscow area and population density for the period from 1870 to 2021 was carried out, the dependence of the population density in municipalities on the distance to the Moscow Ring Road and the dependence of the provision of the population with agricultural land on its population density in municipalities was revealed. For the first time, it was proposed to take into account the level of productivity of agricultural land (agroclimatic zoning) when assessing and zoning suburban areas. The authors propose for each block of goals, based on an analysis of the indicators (factors) included in it, to determine the overall development index of the territory (zone).
