Resume: Chronic suppurative otitis media (CHSM) occupies one of the leading places in the structure of the incidence of ENT organs, while the number of CHMOS patients is 1.4-2.1 per 100 examined. HGSO is characterized by the presence of persistent perforation in the tympanic membrane, constant or periodic suppuration from the ear, hearing loss. The social significance of the disease is due to the development of progressive hearing loss in a number of patients of working age, which makes it difficult to communicate with people, and sharply limits professional fitness. Frequent exacerbations of purulent otitis media lead to temporary and permanent disability. Often, taking on an unfavorable course, a purulent-destructive process in chronic otitis media spreads into the cranial cavity, causing severe intracranial complications (brain abscess, meningitis, cerebral arachnoiditis), in which mortality reaches 30-50%.
