Efficiency assessment of transport planning system implementation at an enterprise using simulation modeling

The paper discusses how to improve the efficiency of organizing cargo transportation based on the introduction of automatic route planning at the enterprise. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing a transport planning system at an enterprise using simulation modeling, which makes it possible to simulate missing data to build a more accurate forecast of the operation of the information system. The objectives of the study were to evaluate the effect of using specialized software that allows rerouting after receiving orders from retail chains in real time. Using the example of a specific enterprise, an algorithm for solving typical problems of distribution of products along fixed routes for manufacturing enterprises is considered. Using the Monte Carlo method, the effect of introducing specialized software that allows rerouting after receiving orders from retail chains in real time was modeled and calculated. During the operation of the model, 100 iterations were completed. The authors of the paper examined the main reasons for the difficulties of taking into account various factors when assessing the effectiveness of the implementation of information technologies at an enterprise; in particular, difficulties can be created by the lack of data. Based on information about the financial costs of implementing the project and potential data on cash flows, taking into account the reduction in losses after implementing the software, obtained using modeling, the NPV of the project was calculated. The result of the modeling was the annual profit/loss in absolute terms and the share of routes that turned out to be unprofitable. The use of simulation modeling clearly demonstrates the superiority of each software implementation scenario over the company's current cargo transportation organization from a financial point of view, making the cash flow forecast more accurate.
