Assessment of export capabilities of small and medium businesses in Russia

The article presents the results of a study of the export capabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) of the Russian Federation as one of the BRICS member countries. It describes current projects in the field of support for SME export activities and their areas of work. An analysis of the dynamics and structure of SMEs is carried out to calculate the share of exporters and their industry affiliation. Based on the report on BRICS expansion, an analysis of the needs and capabilities of countries in terms of providing raw materials: gas, coal, liquid hydrocarbons is carried out. Based on the BACI database from CEPII, a calculation of the structure of domestic non-resource non-energy exports to the BRICS countries based on the results of 2022 is carried out, the most promising areas for the development of export capabilities of SMEs are identified: fertilizers, wood and wood pulp, vegetable oils, cereals, fish and fish products, paper and cardboard, crustaceans, rubber, meat, edible meat by-products, etc. Their compliance with the priority areas of the National Project “Export” is checked. The problems and prospects for the development of SME trade activities within the BRICS framework are outlined in the context of the development of sanctions and tariff confrontation.
