Assessing the quality of life in the northern regions of Russia: multivariate analysis

Бесплатный доступ

The northern regions of Russia are extremely heterogeneous in their socio-economic status. The article assesses the quality of life of the population of the regions of the Russian North using the proposed "CHEESE" methodology, which includes an assessment of 27 indicators based on factor analysis for 2010 and 2020 with subsequent ranking of regions. The purpose of this study is to develop a new approach to multidimensional assessment of the quality of life using the presented “CHEESE” methodology, as well as assessing the quality of life using the presented methodology in the northern regions of Russia. Based on a data set, the study analyzed in detail cultural, health, economic, environmental, social and educational aspects, covering various elements affecting quality of life in 2010 and 2020. When forming a composite quality of life index, differentiated weighting of indicators is used based on the obtained factor loadings, as well as the selection of factors based on statistical significance. However, the key performance area remains the economic sector, which makes the largest contribution to the composite index and has a stronger impact on the ranking position in the region. The top ten in terms of quality of life among Russian regions included two northern regions - the Tyumen region and the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
