The field study of the effectiveness of basic accounting methods employed for the forest crops’ enumeration was conducted with the aim to improve the regulatory framework used in the field of forest regeneration at the stage of forest crops’ transfer into the land covered with forest vegetation. The study was conducted in the North-taiga district of Arkhangelsk region. The analysis of the obtained data shows that the accuracy of the account depends on the area of the surveyed forest cultures, technologies of their creation, and methods of accounting. The most appropriate is a method of forest crops’ enumeration by account lines in the areas of up to 20 hectares with simultaneous plots’ development. This method is also assistive in the exploration of the nature of natural regeneration in forest row crops. It is advisable to plan rectangular areas for forest plots of more than 20 hectares. It reduces the amount of efforts needed for the implementation of accounting works. The use of appropriate methods for forest crops’ inventory will exclude realization of poorly justified decisions when administering subsequent forest management activities.
