Assessment of the main indices of the visceral brain functions, taste and olfaction of patients with periodontitis

Aim: to study functional status of taste, olfaction and functional status of the visceral brain system in patients with periodontitis from a physiological viewpoint. We examined 63 cases and assessed changes in taste and olfaction, space-time and bioelectrical brain activity, coordinatory sphere. In the patients from the given group we observed dysfunctions of gustation and olfactive sensitivity, dysgeusia and dysosmia. We observed increase and decrease in perception time, EEG was accompanied with presented high-frequency, low-amplitude electrical activity that indicates increased inhibitory process and prevailing excitative process; we also observed coordinatory sphere dysfunction.
