The work consists of calculations to show and prove the existing potential use of thermal energy produced by animals. It is based on the energy conservation law FZ No. 261 and norms of technological designing of the enterprises of cattle. Based on these two documents, the quantity of heat which can distinguish different groups of animals in cattle with different numbers of livestock, per hour and per day was calculated. To calculate the amount of heat generated of cattle per day was taken into account that at night the performance is reduced by 20 %. In the analysis of the theoretical calculations it was revealed that there is the potential of unused heat, which is released by cows. Moreover, it is sufficient for use as a secondary source of energy in certain conditions (for a given quantity of livestock). This paper proposes to use this "free heat" for heating water. As the device proposes to use a longitudinally finned tube, which can be placed in the place where the highest temperature in the housing is recorded. As a rule, it is mainly the upper part of the livestock building. It is expected to place the device there and fill it with water. The heat that is produced by animals and rises up to heat the water, can later be used for drinking or for some other technological needs. The calculations clearly show that the use of secondary energy source such as heat generated by animals, has a wide potential for development and use in order to save electric energy spent on heating drinking water for cattle.
