Evaluation of the application of the flotation method in various liquids to improve the quality of coniferous seeds

It is known that the separation of empty seeds from full-grained seeds by flotation is a simple and common way to improve the quality class of seeds. Taking into account the fact that coniferous seed material with insufficiently high sowing qualities can enter open-ground forest nurseries, and pre-sowing seed treatment on high-tech equipment is often difficult, then the search for an effective and affordable way to prepare seed material is very relevant. Several variants of liquids were evaluated during the flotation of pine and spruce seeds. Positive properties of water and alcohol have been established for separating empty seeds from full-grained ones for pine seed material, as well as alcohol for spruce seeds. The search for effective liquids for flotation of coniferous seeds should be continued.
